Brooke's Hockey Chronicles:

Rooting for the underdog since 1985.

31 August 2005

So many things.

I was going to write this week about my trip to DC to SummerSlam with Chiz, my visit with Karen and Luke, and even a bit of hockey stuff, like the announcement about Mike Sullivan, but you know none of that is really important right now.

The NBA and WNBA have donation plans -- the players' association at least was making plans within a day of the hurricane. The NFL announced a million dollar donation today. Pro baseball is also organizing, as is the WWE. And I know NASCAR will announce something at this weekend's races, if not before.

I hope I read about hockey and about Boston-area teams. Soon.

Cycling, hunting, rodeo, and . . .

It's likely that NHL hockey is going to be the first indoor sport to be broadcast on the former Outdoor Life Network.

This will be interesting to watch.

But, hey -- at least they have a contract with someone.

17 August 2005

Phew.

Six week summer program done! And now for some catch-up, before I go on vacation:

You must already know that Wayne Gretzky is coaching. I shouldn't even post that.

Jack Johnson, draft pick #3, is the highest-ever pick from Michigan. And, yes, he's a freshman. Which I guess is a good thing, since Al Montoya and Jeff Tambellini are both leaving school. Tsk, boys, tsk.

Bob Goodenow is the union head no more; Ted Saskin will take a turn.

The Rangers' current splash page is kick-ass cool. (Ahem.) Kevin Weekes signed with NY.

I think I heard screaming when Martin Lapointe went to Chicago. Too bad he won't be reunited with Bryan Berard.

My dear Dan McGillis is now a Devil. The other Sergei (Gonchar) is with the Penguins. And that's where Jocie Thibault is now, too.

Anson Carter is going to Vancouver.

Selected signings with the Bruins:

PJ Axelsson (1 year), Jonathan Girard (1), Travis Green (2), Brad Isbister (trade), Brian Leetch (1), Shawn McEachern (2), Glen Murray (4), Sergei Samsonov (1), Dave Scatchard (4), Jiri Slegr (1), Joe Thornton (3), and Alex Zhamnov (3).

Of course, the returner I like the least was one of a select few who got the longest contracts. But we knew that was going to happen.

There are no major changes on the Bs' bench.

Cam Neeley was funny as heck (again) on "Rescue Me" last night. He really has way too much fun acting.

Oh, speaking of heck . . .

And finally, John Buccigross is right on, as usual. Especially about Guster. Keep it Together is one of only two albums I play at least two times in a row each time I play it. The other one is by Jason Mraz.
